Rev. Ellis Allen

Sister Marion Allen has been very gracious to share some information on Bro. Allen that we will share with you below.

"Ellis entered the ministry in January, 1949.  He was in the ministry 48 years.  He was an evangelist for 27 years and pastored the rest of those years.  We pastored seven churches, and he taught prophecy in evangelistic work also.  He was known for his knowledge of the Bible and the quoting of the Bible.  He preached right up to the weekend before he entered the hospital in April, 1996.  He died December 31, 1996."

Sister Allen didn't mention it in her letter, but she is a very gifted singer and musician to complement Bro. Allen's ministry as well as teaching music.

She didn't recall the exact dates they pastored at East Jenkins, but it was probably in the late 40's.  She added that he was a "camp meeting preacher."

Some of our charter and long-time members

Notes:

Victor Slaughter at 90 years of age.  Victor was a faithful member who served as Sunday school superintendent for many years.  His wife, Nellie, was always in attendance with him and served as pianist until a stroke caused her to be homebound.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lillie Mae (Robbins) Adams.  Lillie served in many offices from the time she became a member until the family moved to Michigan in 1953, just about everything except pastor and clerk.  She was active in the youth programs, teaching and hosting activities.  After settling in Detroit, they found a church and continued their pattern of faithful service.  After retirement, she and husband, Kelsey, returned to East Jenkins and again were active in the church until their deaths.  Lillie Adams was the last charter member to leave us. They are now all  with the the Lord.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kelsey G. Adams.  Kelsey served in many capacities, such as teacher and clerk and was always faithful in attendance.  He and his wife, Lillie, had five children who were taken to church every time the doors were opened.  Kelsey's store in East Jenkins was often a place of Biblical discussions and church promotion.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Osha Gilliam served the church faithfully many years, bringing her children to church when they had to ride a taxi to get there.  In the later years of his life, her husband, Glenn, became a Christian and they attended church regularly until their deaths.
